Our Newsletter Membership Reaches 500

On February 9th 2006 our newsletter membership reached 500.

It's been nearly 4 years since we first started (April 19, 2002), which works out at about 1 new member every 3 days. That doesn't sound much but it's pretty good for a website which focuses primarily on the scientific side of mediumship and survival.

So far we've published 224 newsletters, averaging a little over 1 per week. It's fair to say we've been consistent in our output, as our newsletter homepage demonstrates.

The contents of the newsletters are always brief, and are published every Thursday. They consist of a summary of the latest addition/s to the website, plus links to the week's news. For a typical example, see our newsletter published Jan 26, 2006. We also include a small note on the article to be published on the following Thursday.

Equally important, however, are the things we don't do. We don't use gimmicks or trick people into joining. We don't send out spam. We don't send attachments. We don't allow discussions. And we certainly don't give out email addresses to anyone.

Although we are happy to announce our 500th member, we hope it doesn't take as long to get the next 500. So if you enjoy the newsletters, feel free to tell a friend!

Some Tips on Producing Good Newsletters

• Let visitors know what they will be getting prior to subscribing. Give them an example of a newsletter or provide a link to a previous message.

• Clearly state the main function. Is it a discussion group? An announcement list?

• Give visitors an idea of how often the newsletter is likely to be published.

• Have a privacy policy.

• Don't send spam, or include content not relevant to the topic/s of the newsletter.

• Don't send attachments.

• Use simple and straight-forward language, don't waffle.

• Keep messages as short as possible.

• Include clear, but brief, unsubscription details at the bottom of each newsletter.
